What is LinkDirect?
LinkDirect is a program which allows your browser to process Internet content, changing all references which are recognised Butterworths content into hyperlinks to the relevant Butterworths service.
Links are indicated in standard hypertext format (underlined blue text) and also the Butterworths logo as shown below:

Installing LinkDirect
LinkDirect is installed by CD-ROM. Butterworths is continually updating its services, books and book content. This means that some of the data files installed with LinkDirect required to recognise and validate content references becomes out of date. LinkDirect provides a mechanism for updating these files. Once installation is complete it is essential that a LinkDirect update is run.
Help on installing LinkDirect can be found on the installation CD and also on the User Guides page.
System Requirements
The following requirements are necessary for the installation of LinkDirect:
Operating Systems: Windows NT 4 or later, Windows 2000, Windows 98.
Memory: 128MB minimum (recommended 256MB).
Disk: 500MB free space.
CPU speed: Depends on anticipated volumes. Minimum: Pentium 100MHz.
A LAN connection to a Proxy Server. (Only certified Proxy Server is MS Proxy).
TCP/IP and WINSOCK.
What services does LinkDirect link to?
LinkDirect will mark up all valid references to a wide range of Butterworths services. The list of databases, to which LinkDirect will hyperlink, is available from the LinkDirect data sources page. (Note: In order to be able to view the material from the Butterworths services, you must have a valid subscription for that service.)
I want to use LinkDirect on my intranet. How do I reference my HTML content so that LinkDirect will hyperlink those references?
The Citation Information page lists the way that references should be written for each of the services supported by LinkDirect. LinkDirect hyperlinks all HTML references to Butterworths services, provided they conform to a known text pattern, and the patterns for each type of reference can be found on that page.
I've installed LinkDirect - how can I ensure that it is working?
Provided that the LinkDirect service is active and running on a server, and that your client browser settings are pointing to that server, any content displayed in your browser should be marked up with hyperlinks to Butterworths content. We have made a test page of references available which you can use to check that your LinkDirect system is marking up some standard Butterworths links correctly.
How do I update my LinkDirect installation to ensure that the most recent and accurate Butterworths references are being hyperlinked?
To find out the updating procedure and some other information about updating the files in your LinkDirect system, please refer to the LinkDirect Updating Information page.

Note to users of LinkDirect
As from 11 July, users of LinkDirect will see the
new logo next to links - the red "burst of knowledge", logo of the
LexisNexis group, of which Butterworths is a member, replaces the blue
Butterworths symbol. These links, despite having the new logo, will still
function in the same way as before the change took place - the actual hyperlinks
will not be affected.
