Created in 1998 in response to demand from the company's book buying customer base, Butterworths Direct has rapidly expanded from its initial portfolio of Halsbury's Laws Direct, All England Direct and Law Direct, to provide a wide range of services tailored to the information requirements of the legal profession today. In 1999 Butterworths Tolley took over the editing and selling of the online legal service LEXIS.
